Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that: a) Employees doing brick work from a two-point suspension scaffold were exposed to a potential fall approximately 35' to ground. Counter weights stacked on the outrigger beam were not secured to prevent displacement. Location: Northwest corner of roof on building #30. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard is to: securely fasten the counter weights to the outrigger beam as stipulated by ANSI A10.8-1977, 10.6 on page 18, Safety Requirements for Scaffolding.
