Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: EXPLOSION
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970; The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: Explosion and fire hazards during the handling and storage of LP-Gas (propane). Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatment method to correct this hazard is to establish and implement a Safety Training Program for all employees engaged in the handling of LP-Gases such as that stipulated by the National Fire Protection Association Standard #58, 1979 Chapter 1, Section 150, Qualification of personnel. On 7/21/87 the accidental dropping of a 20-pound LP-Gas (Propane) tank into the cellar of the building resulted in an explosion and fire.
