Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to a potential fire explosion hazard from improper storage of incompatible chemicals in a confined locations: a) Quality Control Laboratory - Two (2) one gallon containers of 36.5-38.0% concentrated hydrochloric acid (Baker) were stored in the same cabinet with concentrated ammonium hydroxide (Baker) and a one gallon container of concentrated sulfuric acid (Fisher Scientific), observed August 3, 1989. b) Costner Building Lab No. 7 - A container of pyridine was stored in the same cabinet (marked organic flammable N-Z) with a container of sulfuric acid, observed August 29, 1989.
