Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employmnent and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: The hazard of falling off the Caterpillar 980 Wheel Loader and being crushed by the moving equipment. (a) Boston Rd., on 4/4/95 - 11:30am - The employee riding outside the operators cab of the Caterpillar 980 Wheel Loader was exposed to the hazard of falling off the equipment and being crushed by the moving vehicle. ABATEMENT NOTE: Among other methods, one feasible method to eliminate or reduce this hazard is to establish and enforce adequate procedures such as those stipulated in the Caterpillar Operator's Guide Book for 950, 966, and 980 Wheel Loaders pages 8 and 9; the General Safety Requirements which prohibit riders on the machine.
