Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard:
29 CFR 1910.176(b): Material stored in tiers was not stacked, blocked, interlocked or limited in height so that it was stable and secure against sliding and collapse: a. On or about January 23, 2024, employees removing loose deicing salt from the bulk storage were exposed to crushed-under hazards due to sliding/collapsing hardened (bridged) salt from above. Employees were using five-gallon buckets to remove the unbridged salt from the core of the stored material to load the salt spreaders when the bridged salt became unstable and dislocated.
