Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard:
OSH ACT of 1970 Section (5)(a)(1): The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that, employees were exposed to burn hazards associated with moving fryers with hot oil during cleaning operations in the kitchen area: a) Saegertown Dairy Inn, Kitchen area of the facility, on or about October 1st, 2023 and times prior thereto: Employees were working with and around hot oil during cleaning operations in and around the electric fryers onsite. The cleaning procedures involved employees moving electric fryers with oil at temperatures of approximately 340-350 degrees Fahrenheit during work operations. An incident occurred where an employee sustained 2nd degree burns due to the condition of moving the electric fryers with hot oil. The area for the fryers was so designed that it allowed the fryer to fall off the front of the countertop during the cleaning operations. ABATEMENT CERTIFICATION AND DOCUMENTATION REQUIRED: Abatement certification is required within 10 days after the abatement date noted on the citation. This certification shall include a statement that abatement is complete, the date abatement was completed, method of abatement, and state that employees and their representatives were informed of this abatement. IN ADDITION, abatement documentation shall include documents demonstrating that abatement is complete, such as evidence of the purchase or repair of equipment, photographic, or video evidence or abatement or other written records.
