29 CFR 1910.179(n)(1): Crane(s) were loaded beyond the rated load (maximum load for which the crane or individual hoist was designed and built by the manufacturer and shown on the equipment nameplate(s): On or about September 22, 2023, the employer required employees to use a 25-ton overhead crane to lift loads above the rated capacity. The employer instructed employees to lift steel coils in excess of 47,000 pounds. The under the hook lifting device (C hook) weighed 2970 pounds which loaded the crane beyond posted capacity.
