Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard:
29 CFR 1910.212(a)(3)(iii):Special handtools for placing and removing material shall be such as to permit easy handling of material without the operator placing a hand in the danger zone. Such tools shall not be in lieu of other guarding required by this section, but can only be used to supplement protection provided. On or about August 10, 2023, the employer failed to ensure guarding was provided to the powered rollers (point of operation) of the Buffalo 3 Roll Forming Machine. A special handtool (bar) was used in lieu of guarding for forming material in the machine and keep the operator from placing a hand or fingers in the danger zone on the point of operation.
