Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard:

OSH Act of 1970 Section (5)(a)(1): The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that an employee was exposed to hazards associated with thermal and chemical burns: On or about April 10, 2023, during removal of the electronic expansion valve, located on the Carrier Model 30 GN/GT Liquid Chilling Unit at the Abraham Lincoln Capital Airport, the employer failed to ensure all refrigerant gas from the applicable system was reclaimed, or verify that all gas had been recovered, prior to un-sweating a copper joint/fitting. Among other methods, feasible and acceptable means of abatement include, but are not limited to, implementing procedures for performing work that involves direct contact with refrigerant gas, which include reclaiming all refrigerant gas from the applicable system and verifying that all refrigerant gas pressure is removed before performing such work.
