OSH ACT of 1970 Section (5)(a)(1):The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm in that employees were exposed to struck by hazards from the potential catastrophic failure of incompatible material in components of compressed air system distribution lines On or about January 4, 2023, employees were exposed to potential struck by hazards from the inappropriate use of polyvinyl chloride components (pipe and fittings) in the distribution lines for the shop building compressed air system. Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) components used in compressed air systems are subject to damage mechanisms, such as but not limited to, brittle failure that can lead to catastrophic failure and shattering of PVC components. Shop employees, such as the shop lead and mechanics, have exposure to this hazardous condition when performing routine duties that include maintenance on the tractor and trailers utilizing pneumatic tools, including but not limited to jacks, impact wrenches, air hammers and die grinders.
