Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard:
29 CFR 1910.212(a)(3)(ii):Point(s) of operation of machinery were not guarded to prevent employee(s) from having any part of their body in the danger zone(s) during operating cycle(s): Meat Processing Floor: On or about December 17, 2022, employees were exposed to hazards from inadequately guarded moving parts while operating/monitoring the meat grinding process, where the Weiler meat grinder (RP-grind-05) fed into the hopper of the Weiler vertical screw conveyor (RP-scrcv-07). The shroud covering the discharge from the grinder did not completely cover the opening on the hopper, allowing access to the rotating horizontal screw. Additionally, there was a moveable plate on the shroud that was not secured or interlocked, allowing access to the rotating horizontal screw. Home Market Foods Inc. was previously cited for a violation of this occupational safety and health standard which was contained in OSHA inspection number 1437993, citation number 1, item number 1 and was affirmed as a final order on 3/17/2020, with respect to a workplace located at 140 Morgan Drive, Norwood, MA 02062.
