Employees were exposed to crushing hazards while connecting tractors to trailers for transport. This was most recently identified on December 8, 2022, at an establishment located at 1001 Bedford Avenue, North Kansas City, Missouri, when an employee did not engage air brakes prior to exiting the tractor to complete connecting to the trailer. AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE METHOD TO CORRECT THIS HAZARD IS TO: ? Develop, implement, and communicate to drivers, specific procedures for connecting and detaching trucks from trailers, to include setting of the air brakes when outside the cab. ? Enforce the procedures for connecting and detaching trucks from trailers to include setting of the air brakes. ? Develop, implement, and communicate to drivers, specific procedures for accessing landing gear when trailers are parked within such close proximity as to limit access. ? Ensure drivers understand how to use the parking brake, to include recognition of warning lights and sounds as reminder it is not set upon exiting the cab.
