Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard:
OSH ACT of 1970 Section (5)(a)(1): The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to crushing and amputation hazards: On or about 08/25/2022 employees were exposed to crushing and/ or amputation hazards while attempting to lift a 1,900 lb steel plate using a Power Lift Magnet. The Power Lift Magnet (PNL0800) max lifting capability is 800 pounds. The steel plate separated from the magnet, crushing/amputating the employee's fingers. Shepard Steel Company, INC. was previously cited for a violation of this occupational safety and health standard or its equivalent standard OSH ACT of 1970 Section (5)(a)(1), which was contained in OSHA inspection number: 1450440, citation number 01, item number 01 and was affirmed as a final order on 03/30/2020, with respect to a workplace located at 110 Meadow Street, Hartford, CT 06114.
