Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard:
OSH ACT of 1970 Section (5)(a)(1): The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to in-going nip points on the Safeline Metal Detection System/Chantland Conveyor: (a)Agropur, Inc. at 408 Dakota Street, Lake Norden, SD 57248: On or about and at times prior to August 16, 2022, the employer did not ensure that employees were protected from the ingoing nip point related to two conveyors on the metal detection machine in the Lactose Sampling/Metal Detection Area. The conveyer belt exposed multiple in-going nip points where the belt met the pulley of the conveyor which was in close proximity to where employees work. This condition exposed employees to the hazard of caught-in and pinch-by by the conveyer rollers. Abatement Note: Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to follow American Society of Mechanical Engineers ASME B20.1-2012 Safety Standard for Conveyors and Related Equipment, paragraph 6.1 Belt Conveyors: Fixed in Place, 6.1.1 Safety Considerations (a) Nip point and shear points shall be guarded.
