OSH ACT of 1970 Section (5)(a)(1): The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees, in that employees were not protected from the hazard of high ambient heat while performing jobs duties: a) On or about and at times prior to 8/4/2022, employees were exposed to the hazard of high ambient heat from direct sun and reactor heat during the performance of their job duties, including erecting scaffolds, dismantling scaffolds, and pulling insulation from hot reactors during their 8 hour exposure times. During the day, the high temperature was 95F(35C), the heat index was 107.4F(41.9C), the relative humidity was 53%, and the WBGT was 90.1F(32.3C). The metabolic work rate was 415 for heavy material handling such as scaffolding work. The clothing adjustment factor was 3 for double layer woven clothing. The calculated effective WBGT was 44.9C. Such exposures are likely to lead to the development of serious heat-related illnesses such as, but not limited to, heat cramps, heat stress, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke.
