29 CFR 1926.651(j)(2): Protection was not provided by placing and keeping excavated or other materials or equipment at least 2 feet (.61m) from the edge of the excavations, or by the use of retaining devices that were sufficient to prevent materials or equipment from falling or rolling into excavations, or by a combination of both if necessary. a) Southeast side of the intersection of John J. Williams Highway and Mulberry Knoll Road in Lewes, DE 19958: On or about 08/05/2022, employees were exposed to struck by and cave-in from excavated materials located less than 2 feet from the edge of the excavation. Several inches of soil was at the edge of the excavation that could fall and roll into the excavation as employees worked on installing a sewer line.
