Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: ELECTRIC
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: The hazard of electrical shock. On or about February 24, 1986, 1/2 mile west and 1/4 mile north of Shamrock, Oklahoma, on Seller well No. 3, employees utilizing a model 80 Crane Carrier Rig, license No. T891-174 OK, were allowed to raise the rig mast under or near electrical lines that were not de-energized or protected by other means. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard would be to have the electrical lines de-energized when work is being done under or near the lines. cc: Directorate of Field Operations ATTN: Bruce Dobbs Tom Littrell Assistant Regional Administrator for Federal and State Operations
