29 CFR 1910.1200(h)(3)(iii): Employee training did not include the measures employees can take to protect themselves from chemical hazards, including specific procedures the employer had implemented to protect employees from exposure to hazardous chemicals, such as appropriate work practices, emergency procedures and personal protective equipment to be used: (Construction Reference: 1926.59) a) On or about 10/11/2021, at a road construction project located near 1099 East Main Street, Rochester, New York; employees were repairing an 8" steel gas main that had been damaged by a contractor. During the repair work, an employee was using an abrasive wheel grinder to remove a damaged 2" service tee. The natural gas was still flowing at service pressure during the work and ignited as a result of the sparks from the grinder. Employees were not trained in specific procedures to monitor flammability limits, control ignition sources or appropriate product control measures when performing emergency repairs.
