1910.219(c)(2)(i) All exposed parts of horizontal shafting seven (7) feet or less from floor or working platform, excepting runways used exclusively for oiling, or running adjustments, shall be protected by a stationary casing enclosing shafting completely or by a trough enclosing sides and top or sides and bottom of shafting as location requires. a. Honda Development & Manufacturing of America, LLC - Russells Point, Ohio: On or about October 12, 2021, the employer failed to ensure the CVT Line #3, near station 91L, was guarded to protect employees from rotating parts. Assemblers at the line were exposed to the rotating rollers which move transmissions on the line; an employee sustained degloving injuries after being caught by a rotating roller. b. Honda Development & Manufacturing of America, LLC - Russells Point, Ohio: On or about October 20, 2021, employees working on the CVT Line #3, stations 92R and 91L, were not protected from pinch points created between two transmission pallets and rollers, where an incoming transmission pallet moves past the rollers and strikes the next stationary pallet. In accordance with 29 CFR 1903.19(d), abatement certification is required for this violation (using the CERTIFICATION OF CORRECTIVE ACTION WORKSHEET), and in addition, documentation demonstrating that abatement is complete must be included with your certification. This documentation may include, but is not limited to, evidence of the purchase or repair of the equipment, photographic or video evidence, or written records.
