29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1): One or more methods of machine guarding was not provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks: (a) Ranch Foods Direct LLC at 1228 East Fillmore Street Colorado Springs, CO 80907: On or before 6/11/21 the employer did not ensure that the meat grinder was guarded effectively or that tools other than hands were used for pushing small amounts of meat through the grinder when the stomper supplied by the employer was unable to push meat through the grinder. An employee lost four fingers of their right hand when trying to push meat through when the stomper was not effective. This condition exposed employees to amputation and crushing hazards. Abatement Note: Abatement certification and documentation are required for this item. See enclosed "Certification of Corrective Actions Worksheet."
