Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard:
OSH ACT of 1970 Section (5)(a)(1): The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to explosion hazards: (a) On or about May 29, 2021, and at times prior, employees were exposed to explosion hazards in that the employer failed to develop and implement effective controls to prevent the introduction of water into molten metal within the #5 Electric Arc Furnace (EAF). At least three workers suffered serious burns when a balcony cooling panel on the #5 EAF leaked a large quantity of water into molten steel and caused an explosion.
