29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1): Types of guarding. One or more methods of machine guarding shall be provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks. Examples of guarding methods are-barrier guards, two-hand tripping devices, electronic safety devices, etc. a) On or about April 27, 2021, the employer failed to ensure that the AccurShear #662512 (serial #5548) machine was effectively guarded at the front where there were moving parts such as the metal hold down cylinders and at the point of operation of the shear blade, both of which extended across the entire front of the machine. b) On or about April 27, 2021, the employer failed to ensure the conveyor belts on the back of the AccurShear #662512 (serial #5548) was guarded to protect employees from the mechanically rotating belts ingoing nip points. c) On or about April 27, 2021, the employer failed to ensure that the Cincinatti Shear machine was effectively guarded at the front where there were moving parts such as the metal hold down cylinders and at the point of operation of the shear blade, both of which extended across the entire front of the machine. d) On or about April 27, 2021, the employer failed to ensure the conveyor belts on the back of the green Cincinnati Shear was guarded to protect employees from the mechanically rotating belts ingoing nip points.
