Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard:
29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1): One or more methods of machine guarding was not provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks: a) On or about April 1, 2021, employees were not protected from rotating spiral ribbon blending blades by machine guarding that was secured or mechanically attached to Blender B2 hopper bottom discharge outlet port. Employees were exposed to caught-in hazards associated with ingoing nip points caused by running blender parts. b) On or about April 1, 2021, employees were not protected from the external rotating parts on the ends of Blender B2 that were not guarded. The Flavorchem Corporation was previously cited for a violation of this occupational safety and health standard or its equivalent standard CFR 29 1910.212(a)(2), which was contained in OSHA inspection number 1350209, citation number 1, item number 3A and was affirmed as a final order on March 15, 2019, with respect to a workplace located at 1525 Brook Drive, Downers Grove, Illinois. Abatement documentation is required for this item in accordance with the requirements of 29 CFR 1903.19(d).
