Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard:
OSH ACT of 1970 Section (5)(a)(1): The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which was free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees: Employees are exposed to hazards such as but not limited to amputations, loss of an eye, and lacerations from using equipment outside of the scope of the manufacturers specifications. And Employees were using Milwaukee Sawzall Reciprocating saws contrary to the manner in which the manufacturer intended. In the fabrication area, employee #1, the saw operator, uses the sawzall to cut the beef in half horizontally while employee #2 is holding the slab of beef on the receiving end of the blade. Employee #1 was making the cut with the sawzall, he would thrust the saw back and forth through the beef as he was cutting; while employee #2, within arm's reach, is holding the slab of beef awaiting the saw blade to protrude through the slab of beef. Employee #1 and #2 cannot see each other through the slab thereby exposing employee #2 to hazards of being cut from the blade. Feasible abatement methods include but are not limited to obtaining and using saws designed for use in the meat processing industry.
