29 CFR 1910.147(c)(1): The employer did not establish a program consisting of an energy control procedure, employee training and periodic inspections to ensure that before any employee performed any servicing or maintenance on a machine or equipment where the unexpected energizing, startup or release of stored energy could occur and cause injury, the machine or equipment shall be isolated from the energy source and rendered inoperative: a) Safestway Labor Force LLC. - Production room #3/lettuce line: The employer did not establish a program consisting of energy control procedures, employee training and periodic inspections to ensure that employees that performed cleaning operations on equipment, including but not limited to a trash conveyor, were protected from being injured due to the unexpected energization, startup or release of stored energy. Machinery and equipment that employees were cleaning were not isolated from their energy sources and not rendered inoperative. Occurred on or about 01/18/2020 NOTE: IN ADDITION TO ABATEMENT CERTIFICATION, THE EMPLOYER IS REQUIRED TO SUBMIT ABATEMENT DOCUMENTATION FOR THIS ITEM. FAILURE TO COMPLY WILL RESULT IN AN ADDITIONAL PENALTY OF $1000.00 IN ACCORDANCE WITH 29 CFR 1903.19.
