OSH ACT of 1970 Section (5)(a)(1): The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of being splashed by hot rendering fluids in the event of equipment failure. On or about October 10, 2019 and at times prior thereto, employees operating the in-feed side of the feather hydrolyzers were exposed to the hazard of burns from being splashed by hot rendering fluid in the event of an equipment failure. Among other methods, feasible and acceptable abatement methods to correct this hazard include, but are not limited to: restricting access to the area while hydrolyzers are pressurized, inspecting and maintaining valves and safety devices frequently, providing fail in safe mode operation for gate valves.
