29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1): One or more methods of machine guarding was not provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks: (a) California Expanded Metal Products Co. at 490 Osage St. Denver, CO 80204: On and preceding 9/13/19, the employer did not provide one or more methods of machine guarding to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks. Two employees were operating the LoopCo slitter machine model # D 109-5082 serial # 194SW11457C and hydraulic table serial #1754T10652 on Line 1. Employee 1 was operating the controls while employee 2 used a wooden stick to pick up the ends of sheet metal coming from the slitter head to set on the hydraulic table. As the hydraulic table moved towards the slitter head, employee 2 was caught in between the slitter machine and hydraulic table, and was hospitalized. The point of operation was not guarded.
