29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1): Types of guarding. One or more methods of machine guarding shall be provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks. Examples of guarding methods are-barrier guards, two-hand tripping devices, electronic safety devices, etc. a)On 8/29/2019 a Victor Lathe (Model # 2080S) was rotating at 20 RPMS, while an employee was attaching a upper punch pin into the chuck of the lathe, this allowed the employee to be pulled into the lathe due to the attachment section not having a guarding method such as but not limited to either barrier guards or electronic safety guards that would prevent employees from accessing the rotating parts.
