Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard:
29 CFR 1910.23(b)(11): Each employee shall face the ladder when climbing up or down it: The employer is failing to protect employees from fall hazards while using step ladders to retrieve and place display items on top shelves of the gondolas. This was most recently documented on or about June 1, 2019, at Academy Sports + Outdoors at 14405 West 135th Street in Olathe, Kansas. An employee engaged in sales activities, attempting to retrieve and carry down a JUGS Lite Pitching Machine from a gondolas top shelf, using a Werner A frame, eight foot ladder (Werner Model PT7408-4C, size 8 ft. Type IA Fiberglass Stepladder with casters) fell and struck his head. At the time of the fall, the employee was facing away from the ladder while descending or climbing down.
