Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard:
29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1): One or more methods of machine guarding was not provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks: On or about 4/17/19, the employer failed to ensure that employees tasked with operating the Viking Champion model #605, serial #902, were protected by machine guarding methods. The nailer travels north and south on the table. The employees are positioned on the east side of the machine and are within inches of the moving nailer. At the end of the machine cycle employees load material onto the table, and into the hoppers, which exposes them to pinch points and in-going nip points. The machine is run in automatic mode and the only machine guard(s) in place were the hinged e-stops on the north and south side of the nailer that trigger limit switches to stop the nailer from moving.
