29 CFR 1915.73(c): When employees were working around open hatches not protected by coamings to a height of 24 inches, or around other large openings, the edge of an opening was not guarded in the working area to a height of 36 to 42 inches. a. On or about March 28, 2019, on board USS IWO JIMA, in compartment 7-75-2-F, an employee measuring locations to install new equipment was exposed to a 17-feet and 3-inches fall hazard in that the two mid-level swashplate deck openings in the tank were 42 inches in diameter and were not guarded.
