29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1): Types of guarding. One or more methods of machine guarding shall be provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks. Examples of guarding methods are-barrier guards, two-hand tripping devices,electronic safety devices, etc. On March 13, 2019, the top back guard for the whipped topping machine located at the Raque line was missing, exposing employees who hand their hands on the guard to a pinch point hazard in that the guard in place did not cover the whipped topping dispensers to prevent an amputation. Perkins and Marie Callender's, LLC was previously sited for a violation of this occupational safety and health standard or its equivalent standard 29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1), which was contained in OSHA inspection #1355866, citation 1, item 2, and was affirmed as a final order on December 7, 2019, with respect to a workplace located at 6880 Fairfield Business Center Dr, Fairfield, OH 45014.
