Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard:
29 CFR 1910.28(b)(6)(i): Each employee less than 4 feet (1.2 m) above dangerous equipment was not protected from falling into or onto the dangerous equipment by a guardrail system or a travel restraint system, unless the equipment is covered or guarded to eliminate the hazard. (a) Employees who worked in the IQ department were exposed to falls into furnaces ranging in temperature from 900 to 1800 degrees F when they were on the catwalk opening and closing the furnace door to place parts into or remove parts from the furnaces. (b) Employees who worked in the IQ department were exposed to falls into the 210 degree F quench tank when quenching aluminum parts that were removed from the 985 degree furnace. In accordance with 29 CFR 1903.19(d), abatement certification is required for this violation (using the CERTIFICATION OF CORRECTIVE ACTION WORKSHEET), and in addition, documentation demonstrating that abatement is complete must be included with your certification. This documentation may include, but is not limited to, evidence of the purchase or repair of the equipment, photographic or video evidence, or written records.
