Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard:
29 CFR 1910.132(a): Protective equipment, including personal protective equipment for eyes, face, head, and extremities, protective clothing, respiratory devices, and protective shields and barriers, shall be provided, used, and maintained in a sanitary and reliable condition wherever it is necessary by reason of hazards of processes or environment, chemical hazards, radiological hazards, or mechanical irritants encountered in a manner capable of causing injury or impairment in the function of any part of the body through absorption, inhalation or physical contact: Semi-metallic, hot press #1: on or about November 1, 2018, employees assigned to handle hot brake shoes with hoisted grip tongues and handheld scrapers from the furnace, in/out of the die box, and to/from plug press station were exposed to contact with hot surfaces and flying sparks likely to result in burn injuries because heat-resistant work aprons and/or other personal protective equipment (PPE) were not provided to protect body parts from inadvertent direct physical contact. Abatement documentation is required for this item in accordance with the requirements of 29 CFR 1903.19(d).
