Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard:
OSH ACT of 1970 Section (5)(a)(1): The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to struck by hazards when using a The Husqvarna K 760 power saw. . At worksite located at 4300 Paseo Blvd, Kansas City, Missouri.-Employees were exposed to struck by hazards when using a Husqvarna K 760 power saw to cut cast iron/metal pipes in excavations, operators should allow space to operate equipment according to manufactures instructions. One feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard: (1) Follow the Husqvarna K 760 power saw manual instructions (located in fie) on page 17 in the Operations section. In this section, manufacturer instructs operator to stand parallel to the cutting blade. Avoid standing straight behind. In the event of a kickback the saw will move in the plane of the cutting blade. Never use the kickback zone of the blade for cutting. Page 18, in the Kickback section- Kickbacks are sudden and can be very violent. The power cutter can be thrown up and back towards the user in a rotating motion causing serious or even fatal injury. It is vital to understand what causes kickback and how to avoid it before using the machine. Reactive force-A reactive force is always present when cutting. The force pulls the machine in the opposite direction to the blade rotation. Most of the time this force is insignificant. If the blade is pinched or stalled the reactive force will be strong and you might not be able to control the power cutter. Kickback zone. Never use the kickback zone of the blade for cutting. If the blade is pinched or stalled in the kickback zone, the reactive force will push the power cutter up and back towards the user in a rotating motion causing serious or even fatal injury.
