Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard:
29 CFR 1910.179(j)(2): Frequent inspection. The following items shall be inspected for defects at intervals as defined in paragraph (j)(1)(ii) of this section or as specifically indicated, including observation during operation for any defects which might appear between regular inspections. All deficiencies such as listed shall be carefully examined and determination made as to whether they constitute a safety hazard: a. On or about August 15, 2018, a 30/10 ton "center" crane (manufacturer unknown, no label) was being used to move materials throughout the shop area. The employer did not ensure that the 30/10 ton center crane was inspected at frequent/regular intervals for defects that could present a safety hazard for employees working in the shop. b. On or about August 15, 2018, a Kone 15 ton overhead ("North") crane was being used to move materials throughout the shop area. The employer did not ensure that the North crane was being inspected at frequent/regular intervals for defects that could present a safety hazard for employees working in the shop. c. On or about August 15, 2018, a Kone 15 ton overhead ("South") crane was being used to move materials throughout the shop area. The employer did not ensure that the South crane was being inspected at frequent/regular intervals for defects that could present a safety hazard for employees working in the shop.
