Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard:
Section 5(a)(l) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to workers, in that the workers were exposed to excessive heat: a) On or about August 2, 2018 employees who worked in the shredding and melting area, loading materials into the shredder, were exposed to the hazard of excessive heat generated by machinery and the melting process. Such exposures may lead to the development of heat related illnesses such as heat stroke, heat stress, heat exhaustion, or death. Temperature monitoring was done in the area following the incident and levels were found to exceed safe levels of exposure. The employer had not instituted controls to minimize or eliminate the hazard. On August 2, 2018 an employee suffered heat stroke.
