29 CFR 1910.212(a)(3)(iii): Special handtools for placing and removing material shall be such as to permit easy handling of material without the operator placing a hand in the danger zone. Such tools shall not be in lieu of other guarding required by this section, but can only be used to supplement protection provided. a) Meat Department - On or about July 10, 2018, the employer did not provide and require the use of a special handtool, such as a "push plate/paddle", for employee use when cutting meat on the Hobart vertical band saw, Model #6801, Serial #27-7110-997, thereby exposing employees to an amputation hazard from the moving saw blade.
