Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard:
29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1): One or more methods of machine guarding was not provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks; a) On or about March 29, 2018, the employer failed to ensure that effective guarding was in place to protect employees from the in-going nip point of the mobile conveyors. The hazard areas where the belt meets the pulley were not guarded on the conveyors between presses B10 and B20. Employees remove parts from the conveyors prior to placing them in the presses and at the final exit off the line. b) On or about March 29, 2018, the employer failed to ensure that effective guarding was in place to protect employees from the in-going nip point of the mobile conveyors. The hazard areas where the belt meets the pulley were not guarded on the conveyors between presses B20 and B30. Employees remove parts from the conveyors prior to placing them in the presses and at the final exit off the line. c) On or about March 29, 2018, the employer failed to ensure that effective guarding was in place to protect employees from the in-going nip point of the mobile conveyors. The hazard areas where the belt meets the pulley were not guarded on the conveyors between presses B30 and B40. Employees remove parts from the conveyors prior to placing them in the presses and at the final exit off the line. d) On or about March 29, 2018, the employer failed to ensure that effective guarding was in place to protect employees from the in-going nip point of the mobile conveyors. The hazard areas where the belt meets the pulley were not guarded on the conveyors between presses B40 and B50. Employees remove parts from the conveyors prior to placing them in the presses and at the final exit off the line. e) On or about March 29, 2018, the employer failed to ensure that effective guarding was in place to protect employees from the in-going nip point of the mobile conveyors. The hazard areas where the belt meets the pulley were not guarded on the conveyors on the exit side of B50. Employees remove parts from the conveyors prior to placing them in the presses and at the final exit off the line. The Artiflex Manufacturing was previously cited for a violation of this occupational safety and health standard or its equivalent standard 29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1), which was contained in OSHA inspection number 1067041, citation number 1, item number 1 and was affirmed as a final order on September 15, 2015 with respect to a workplace located at 1425 East Bowman Street, Wooster, OH 44691.
