Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard:
OSH ACT of 1970 Section (5)(a)(1): The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to crushed-by hazards. The employer is failing to protect employees from crushing and/or amputation hazards. This was most recently documented on January 5, 2018 at the International Dehydrated Foods facility located at 700 S. Chapell Drive in Monett, MO. Employees were allowed to access the danger zone on the Selco Horizontal Baler, created by the hydraulic door clamp, while it was in operation. Feasible and acceptable methods to correct this hazard include the following: Follow the safety recommendations set forth in the Selco Balers- Horizontal Closed-Dorr Baler Operators Manual. Never place any portion of the body, head or limbs into a scissors point or pinch point on the baler. Develop and implement procedures for proper use and operation of the baler.
