Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard:
29 CFR 1926.850(a): Prior to permitting employees to start demolition operations, an engineering survey shall be made, by a competent person, of the structure to determine the condition of the framing, floors, and walls, and possibility of unplanned collapse of any portion of the structure. Any adjacent structure where employees may be exposed shall also be similarly checked. The employer shall have in writing evidence that such a survey has been performed. a) BASF Chemical Processing Unit, McIntosh, AL: On or about November 7, 2017 and at times prior, the employer exposed employees to struck by and/or crushed by hazards, in that the employer failed to provide written evidence that a complete engineering survey was made. The provided documentation did not include the intended method for collapse of the structure, i.e.: Mechanical or other than mechanical, or the possibility of unplanned collapse.
