Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: OTHER

IC 22-8-1.1 Section 2: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: Blast Furnace 13 - Molten Slag and Iron were diverted into the west slag pit which had previously been sprayed with water. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to develop and enforce a procedure, to prepare for a possible situation requiring kickout while tapping Number One Hole, that prohibits unnecessary application of water into the west slag pit. Further, the procedure should require kickouts to the east slag when taps are made on number two and number three holes and there has been water application into the west slag pit.
