29 CFR 1910.23(d)(2): (2) The minimum perpendicular distance from the centerline of the steps or rungs, or grab bars, or both, to the nearest permanent object in back of the ladder is 7 inches (18 cm), except for elevator pit ladders, which have a minimum perpendicular distance of 4.5 inches (11 cm); On or about 10-25-2017 and times prior thereto, located at U.S. Postal Service Denbigh Station 14104 Warwick Blvd., Newport News, VA 23602, Condition: Employee(s) were exposed to fall hazards when using a permanent fixed interior roof access ladder which measured its center rungs to the flat fixed wall surface behind it to only be four and three-quarter inches away. Abatement certification required within 10 days after abatement date. The certification shall include a statement that abatement is complete, date and method of abatement, and states employee(s) and their representatives were informed of this abatement.
