Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard:
29 CFR 1910.132(d)(1): The employer did not assess the workplace to determine if hazards were present, or were likely to be present, which necessitated the use of personal protective equipment: (a) The employer's personal protective equipment (PPE) policy and hazard assessment regarding minimum PPE required to be used by Plating Operators in the Plating Department was deficient, in-that it did not include required use of impermeable aprons to protect Plating Operators from exposure to splashing or dripping of corrosive liquids, such as Nitric Acid used in the passivation tanks in the Gold Room. (b) The employer's personal protective equipment (PPE) policy and hazard assessment regarding minimum PPE required to be used by Plating Operators in the Plating Department was deficient, in-that it did not clearly address required foot wear or use of protective shoe or boot coverings to protect Plating Operators from exposure to splashing or dripping of corrosive liquids, such as Nitric Acid used in the passivation tanks in the Gold Room.
