Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard:
29 CFR 1910.151(c): Where employees were exposed to injurious corrosive materials, suitable facilities for quick drenching or flushing of the eyes and body were not provided within the work area for immediate emergency use: a) On or about 07-17-2017 and times prior thereto, located at U.S. Postal Service Sandston Distribution Center, 5801 Technology Blvd. Sandston, VA 23150, Condition: Employee(s) were exposed to chemicals that were extremely corrosive and destructive to tissue, according to the product Safety Data Sheet. ZEP Alkaline Drain Opener was found in the Fork Truck Battery area and there was not an eyewash station within the work area suitable of immediate flushing of the eyes with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes, according to the product First Aid information. The nearest plumbed eyewash station was over 224 linear feet away from the area, with obstructions and turns in the path between the two areas. Abatement certification required within 10 days after abatement date. The certification shall include a statement that abatement is complete, date and method of abatement, and states employee(s) and their representatives were informed of this abatement.
