29 CFR 1910.138(a): The employer did not select and require employee(s) to use appropriate hand protection when employees' hands were exposed to hazards such as those from skin absorption of harmful substances; severe cuts or lacerations; severe abrasion; punctures; chemical burns; thermal burns; and harmful temperature extremes: a) Production Work Area: On or about June 29, 2017, an employee was using a vertical band saw to cut frozen meat without wearing cut resistant gloves to prevent injury in the event of inadvertent contact with the saw blade. Abatement Note: Among other feasible means of abatement, work processes involving moving blades should be evaluated and the appropriate cut resistance determined for the selection of protective gloves as stated in ANSI / ISEA 105 - 2005, American National Standard for Hand Protection Selection Criteria.
