Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard:
29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1): The employer did not provide machine guarding to protect the operator(s) and other employees from hazards created by the point of operation, ingoing nip points, and rotating parts. On or about May 31 through June 7, 2017, employees were exposed to crushing and amputation injuries due to unguarded ingoing nip points on the following unguarded machinery: a) BMF Dough Conveyor. The long sides of the conveyor were not guarded to prevent entry into the ingoing nip points created between the belt and rollers. On the aisle side of the conveyor near the floor, there were openings in the side of the machine exposing two nip points between the return side of the belt and rollers. b) Rotary Die Moulder for BMF Dough Conveyor. The grate/guard covering the rotary die rollers was not adequate to prevent entry into the ingoing nip point between the rollers (point of operation). The openings in the grate/guard were too large for the distance to the point of operation. Abatement documentation is required for this item in accordance with 29 CFR 1903.19(d).
