Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: ELECTRIC
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: (a) The hazards of live electrical conductors in that, on or about October 12, 1995, employees were operating Case 2055 Cotton Pickers too close to energized 7200 volt power distribution lines at the Tusa farm in Highbank, Texas. Among other feasible and acceptable abatement methods to correct this hazard, one feasible abatement method would be to request the electric utility to de-energize the powerlines before equipment is operated near them. The operators' manual for the 2055 Cotton Picker warns the operator to make sure there is enough clearance between the equipment and overhead power lines.
