Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: STRUCK BY
Section 5(A)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to struck by: Employees using Clevis type hand hoist with a plain trolley on a standard I beam were not provided with mechanical stops at the end of each trolley to protect employees from being struck by the hoist in the event the hoist were to travel past the I beam. The clevis type hand hoist are used at the Precious Metals Building, Smelting Department and Balloon Flue Pipe located approximately 20 feet above floor level. One feasible and acceptable abatement method, among others, to correct this condition is to install stops at the end of travel for each clevis type hoist.
