Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of being struck by material being lowered a) Graving dock - Barge Adelaide - Supervisory training was inadaquate in that the hazard of lowering a tow line by hand, from the deck of the barge to the floor of the graving dock, was not determined by the supervisor and employee training was inadaquate in that employees did not understand or were unaware of the proper methods of avoiding the hazard of lowering the tow line by hand. Among other methods, one feasible and accepted abatement method to correct this hazard is to conduct hazard recognition training for all employees.
